How secure is you uPVC fronted house? If you have to take time to think about it then probably not very secure at all!

Most people have a tendency to think that uPVC is the most secure of locking mechanisms in their house – however from a burglars point of view it’s probably the easiest to break into. Here at Locksmiths Manchester we’re going to advise on what is the best form of security to the general public.

Firstly make sure that all of your windows and doors are working on the mechanisms – this means that when the handle is pushed in the catch release the bolts or rollers on the mechanism and opens and closes the window. If you leave the keys in the windows you are asking for trouble! Remove them!

Secondly – for a small cost, usually about 10 pound each, have sash jammers fitted to the window. These are mechanically operated lever systems that pull across you window and stop anyone – including locksmiths from getting in!

Thirdly – make sure you uPVc front door is working correctly, if it’s stiff or difficult to lock get it looked at. Make sure that the handles can be lifted with two fingers – if not it’s in trouble! Always lock the door when you enter the house. Burglars wait for people to be in their house – knowing on uPVC they won’t lock the door so come by your house, try the door. If you’ve not locked it behind you – they’ll take advantage.

Fourthly – Get sash jammers fitted to your front and back doors – again cheap and cheerful. But really secure!

Finally – just take the time to walk round the property and have a quick look at the security ricks in the house. And..if it needs upgrading, pay for it now. It’s the best money you’ll ever spend.
